Fagbenro, who said such international body should be independent and not affiliated with any political party or candidate, noted that Nigerians should work together to fight the scourge of corruption that had eaten deep into the system.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to journlists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday, Fagbenro decried the level of corruption among Nigerians, espaecially politicians.
According to him, many political office holders who advocated against corruption during their campaigns, got into offices and kept quiet because they wanted to keep their jobs.
”Disproportionate inflation of salaries of political office holders is the very first ac of corruption. If President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo were independent candidates, they would have been more successful in Fighting corruption, but they are not.A candidate cannot go against his party or members of his party. So a government in power cannot prosecute corrupt members of his party.
”That is why you see some politicians alleged or accused of corruption run to the ruling party for protection.
”The system itself is designd to be corrupt and forces almost every Nigerian to be passively or actively corrupt,” Fagbenro said.
He said if Nigeria would maintain the current pay scale of political office holders, then it had to be performance-based. If they carry out their responsilities fully; create jobs and train members of their constituencies, then they claim full pay package, if not, there should be checks.
He, however, called on Nigerians to play a part in the system by registering for their permanent voter cards(PVCs), speaking their minds and supporting creduble young candidates.
