Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has ordered a probe into the N6.8 million said to have been swallowed by a gorilla in the state-owned zoo.
TheLagostimes recalls that an official of the Kano Zoological Gardens claimed the gorilla carted away the money from where it was kept before swallowing it.
The money was from proceeds of the zoo’s gate fee collected during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
According to NAN, Ganduje asked the state anti-corruption commission to probe the alleged theft.
“The order was given on Friday and the commission has already swung into action,”Abba Anwar, the governor’s spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday.
He quoted the governor as directing the commission to look into the circumstances surrounding the allegation and “unearth everything surrounding the incident”.
Abdullahi Haruna, police spokesman in Kano, had said the persons have been arrested over the incident.
“As at now, we have arrested 10 members of staff of the zoo including the security man and those working in the finance unit”.
