Ex-Zamfara Deputy Governor, Wakkala, Shot In Kaduna Train Attack
The former media aide to the ex-deputy governor, Yusuf Idris, told Daily Trust that Wakkala was shot in the leg and is currently receiving treatment in a medical facility in Kaduna.
“He is responding to treatment very well. He is answering phone calls in his bed. I spoke to him and several other people spoke to him also. There is no cause for alarm,” Yusuf told Daily Trust.
Idris said the former Deputy Governor was initially abducted by the terrorists during the attack and was successfully rescued by the combined forces of DSS and Military.
Thelagostimes reports that some unknown gunmen, on Monday evening, attacked a Kaduna-bound train carrying hundreds of passengers.
One of the passengers aboard the train, Anas Iro-Danmusa, took to Facebook to solicit for prayers for those in the train.
He said the armed persons planted explosives on the rail which damaged the train’s engines.
According to him, the bandits had surrounded the train and made efforts to enter the coaches but the doors were not opening.
“Please, spread the news. We need help. Gunshots,” he posted.
However, over an hour after his first post, Mr Danmusa said soldiers had arrived and repelled the attack.
