JUST IN: Kogi Election: Gunmen Reportedly Attack Oyo Governor Makinde In Lokoja

Some gunmen on Friday, reportedly attacked the hotel where the Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, lodged.

Thelagostimes gathered that Governor Makinde and Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s election in Kogi state, Musa Wada on Friday escaped being whisked away by masked gunmen, who attacked the Suitorial Hotel where they were lodged.

Governor Makinde is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Kogi state Campaign Council.

According to reports, the gunmen, dressed in police uniforms and bullet proof masks arrived the hotel at about 12.50 pm with some of them scaling the fence to gain access.

But a number of security operatives attached to the Governor and some residents of nearby buildings, however, worked with security operatives, to stop the invaders.

An eyewitness at the scene of the incidence said: “They came fully armed and hooded. Some of them scaled the fence of the Hotel and made to enter the Hotel proper. But pandemonium ensued, as there was commotion between security operatives attached to the Governor and the invaders.

“However, some residents in the neighbourhood of the Hotel soon mobilised and joined the Governor’s security to resist the invaders”.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, who confirmed the attack, said: “Information reaching us from Lokoja, the Kogi state capital confirmed that some armed and masked security men who appeared in police uniforms have attacked the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde in Lokoja, Kogi state capital”.
