Corp Members, Others React To INEC’s Postponement Of Elections, Create Hashtag ‘ThisisNigeria’ On Twitter
Following the recent postponement of the presidential and national assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Corp members and Nigerians at large have taken to twitter to express their displeasure.
With the trending hashtag ‘#ThisisNigeria’, Thelagostimes gathered that a large number of them are against the postponement by INEC.
As seen in pictures posted by a twitter user, Ojoola, the corp members who have been mobilised as ad-hoc staff for the election were exposed to harsh weather conditions and inconviniencies as most of them slept of the floor.
It was therefore annoying and disheartening for them that after so much stress and inconviniences, INEC postpones the elections.
INEC you had 4 good years to prepare for this election. You subjected Corpers to this harsh cold weather. They slept on the bare floor. No proper arrangements were made.
But you still postponed election after all these stress by corps members.#ThisIsNigeria#NigeriaDecides2019 pic.twitter.com/pTCoRjzmjK— Ojóòla ابراهيم (@iam_future) February 16, 2019
Recall that earlier today, INEC, in a statement, disclosed that the elections earlier slated for today is being postponed due to logistic isues.
“Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible,” he said.
“Consequently, the commission has decided to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, 23 February 2019.
“Furthermore, the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections is rescheduled to Saturday 9th March 2019. This will afford the Commission the opportunity to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections.
“This was a difficult decision for the Commission to take, but necessary for the successful delivery of the elections and the consolidation of our democracy”, he said.

This is wrong on so many levels. Hours to election, INEC announces the most terrible news. People who travelled far for this, schools who went on midterm for this election, events and engagements that were cancelled for this election, all was just a waste of time#ThisIsNigeria

An electoral body cancels a presidential election few hours before the election and the government in power blames it on the main opposition party. #ThisIsNigeria #NigeriaDecides2019 #NigeriaDecides
