In a fit of retaliation on the widespread Xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa, some aggrieved Nigerians have invaded Shoprite outlet at Circle Mall in Lekki, and have also staged peaceful protest at Ikeja City Mall, housing a Shoprite franchise.

The protest comes barely 24 hours after reports of attacks on foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in South Africa, came to public knowledge.

Some protesters also marched inside Ikeja City Mall, which houses Shoprite, MTN and DStv offices. While the protest in Ikeja was peaceful, those of Lekki and Surulere were not.

In Lekki, some of the aggrieved youth lit bonfires and attempted to break into the store but they were prevented by policemen on ground.

Today, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria, Fredi Moolman, reacted. Moolman condemned the attack on properties belonging to Nigerians in South Africa. The country woke up to the news of properties that were burnt by some South Africans. According to Moolman, violent acts should have no place in society.

Fredi Moolman said MTN condemns the hate, prejudice, and xenophobia going on in South Africa, adding that the telecoms company is against bigotry and discrimination.
