JUST IN: Over 200 Prisoners Escape, 100 Rearrested As Flood Submerges Kogi Prison
Following an early morning downpour on Monday in Koton-Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State, about 200 prisoners from the medium federal correctional centre have escaped.
It was gathered that some parts of the building housing the inmates had collapsed, even as many houses were submerged by the flood.
However, a prison source told Punch that 100 of the inmates have been rearrested, while unspecified number voluntarily returned.
The acting Chief Imam of Koton-Karfi Karfi central mosque, Saidu Suleiman Nuhu, disclosed that river Osugu over flooded its bank and destroyed so many houses including the prison, which led to the escape of some inmates.
