Two Dead In Lagos As Global COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 170, 000

Another COVID-19 Death Recorded In Lagos — A 63-Year-Old Man

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that the two more COVID-19 patients have died in the state.

 

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, made the disclosure via his Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Abayomi said the dead patients were aged 45 and 36 respectively.

 

He said, “One of the deceased was a 45-year-old Nigerian; male who returned from India in January, 2020.

 

“The second death involved a 36-year-old Nigerian; female with severe underlying health condition. She had no history of travel or contact with any #COVID19 confirmed case.

 

“Total number of #COVID19 related deaths in Lagos now stands at 16.”

Global COVID-19 Toll Tops 170,000

The coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 170,000 people globally, close to two-thirds of them in hardest-hit Europe.

This is accccording to an AFP tally Tuesday at 0935 GMT.

 

In total, 170,226 people have died from the virus around the world, including 106,737 in Europe. With 42,364 deaths, the United States has the highest mortality rate, followed by Italy with 24,114 fatalities and Spain’s 21,282. France has 20,265 deaths and Britain 16,509.

 

There are 2,483,086 recorded cases around the world, though the number of actual infections is believed to be higher since many countries are only testing the most serious cases.

 

 

 

The figures have been compiled by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization.
