Ex-Lagos Military Governor, Buba Marwa Resumes Office As New NDLEA Chairman
The newly appointed Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Buba marwa, resumed office on Monday.
Recall President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the appointment of a former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Mr Marwa, following the expiration of the tenure of the erstwhile director-general, Mohammed Abdallah.
Mr Marwa, who is a retired brigadier-general in the Nigerian Army vowed to reposition the country’s anti-drug trafficking agency.
He said: “Together, by the grace of God, we will resuscitate and reposition NDLEA to full active life, to be effective, respected and feared by concerned criminals. Nigeria is the only country we have, we cannot fold our arms. We can, will and must eliminate the drug scourge.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has stopped the planned screening of 5000 applicants seeking employment with NDLEA as part of concerted efforts to prevent the spread of the corona-virus spread in the country.
The government claimed that the screening slated for this month was wrongly timed in view of the alarming rate the disease is said to be spreading by experts.
Attorney General of the Federation AGF and Minister of Justice ordered a stop into the screening exercise on behalf of the federal government.
