BREAKING: Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Bans Okada In Six LGAs
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has banned the operations of commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, in six Local Governments of the state beginning from June 1, 2022.
The governor announced that the ban is “indefinite and total”.
He gave the order on Wednesday while speaking with all Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders across the state at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
Thelagostimes gathered that this announcement is coming days after some okada riders burnt a sound engineer, David Umoh to death in the Lekki area of the state.
Sanwo-Olu asked the Lagos Police Command and other security agencies to enforce the ban.
The six local governments listed by the governor are Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa.
“This is the phase banning we are going to be embarking on so that others know that in a short while, either they get out or get something else to do.
“From the first of June, the LCDAs that are underneath them, we are going to publish them and list all of them, so we are giving the notice now.
“Begin to do your strategy now, from the first of June we want all the okadas to be completely off these major roads,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
