Troops Rescue Two Chibok Girls After Eight Years
Two girls have been rescued, over eight years after they were kidnapped from their school, Government Girls Secondary School in Chibiok, Borno State.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that troops of 202 battalion, during clearance operations on 25 July 2022, intercepted four abducted women, including two girls kidnapped by Boko Haram from GGSS Chibok on 14 April 2014.
According to the brief statement from the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the intercepted Chibok girls, alongside their children believed to have been fathered by their abductors, are currently in a military medical facility.
The army spokesman further revealed that they would thereafter be handed over to the state government for onward reunion with their families.
Thelagostimes recalls that about 276 female students aged from 16 to 18 were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State on 14th April, 2014.
According to reports, about 57 of the schoolgirls escaped immediately by jumping from the trucks on which they were being transported, while some others have been rescued by the Nigerian Armed Forces on various occasions.
So far, over 100 of the abducted students have reportedly gained their freedom.
