An 18-year old teenager, identified as Tope Momoh has strangled his mother to death for calling him a bastard.

TheNation reports that Tope admitted to killing his 52-year-old mother, Stella, two weeks after she was buried.

He was said to have committed the offence in the midnight on September 6, 2022 at Ikakumi Akoko area of Akure.

Tope, who was arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on a one count charge of murder, pleaded for mercy.

The prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, informed the court that the cause of the mother’s death was unknown until her son confessed to be the killer.

Akintimehin said the offence contravenes Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.

Tope was quoted to have said: “I did not have rest of mind since my mother was buried. So, I was forced to confess that I strangled her to death. I want the court to show me mercy.”

However, Tope’s plea was not taken as the presiding Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, ordered his remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.

Al-Yunnus adjourned the case till October 20, 2022.
