President Buhari Commissions 650,000 BPD Dangote Refinery Today

President Mohammadu Buhari has arrived for the commissioning of the Dangote refinery.

The refinery is located at Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, and it is set up to process crude oil grades from the continent of Africa, Asia and America, with a delivery of a surplus of close to 38 million litres of petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel for Nigeria daily.

Buhari was received by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.

Thelagostimes gathered that five other African presidents are expected to attend the commissioning of the refinery.

Other Presidents expected include the President of Togo, Gnassingbé Eyadéma; the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo; the President of Senegal Macky Sall; the President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum; and the President of Chad, Mahamat Déby.

The Dangote Group had earlier noted, in a statement on Saturday, that the refinery will be churning out Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), diesel (AGO), aviation jet fuel and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK), among other refined products.

The CEO Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, Sanjay Gupta, stated that “everything in this plant by way of size is the first. It is the largest single-train refinery in the world.

“There is no single column which can process 650,000 barrels per day anywhere else.”

Ahead of the commissioning, the Lagos State Government had urged commuters to plan their movement in and out of the Lekki-Epe corridor between 8am and 2pm.
