JUST IN: West African Leaders Begin Summit On Niger Coup
West African leaders have commenced a second emergency summit on the coup in Niger.
Thelagostimes gathered that this is coming after the country’s military chiefs defied an ultimatum to restore the elected president.
Many West African leaders, including the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Bola Tinubu, converged in Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital, on Thursday.
United Nations and African Union representatives were also in attendance.
Details of the meeting are still unknown at the time of this report.
Recall that Niger’s new strongman, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in a statement on national television on Wednesday night, revealed that the country’s coup leaders have formed a new government.
