Why My Latest Single, ‘I Like’ Will Trend – Naeomi

Naomi Nwaokoru, known professionally as ‘Naeomi’ has revealed why she believes her latest single, ‘I Like’ will trend.

The new single, which dropped across streaming platforms today Friday, November 17 is the latest addition to her music catalogue.

Speaking in an interview on the subject, she shared that ‘I Like’ is a song that she got connected to the moment she heard the beat.

“I was just like ‘I like this your body when you do whine am when you dey go down slow’. ‘I like’ is for all the guys and pretty ladies out there. I need women to love themselves as they are and keep rocking that body. Your body is nice just as my body is nice. Everybody that sees me, the first thing they say is ‘I like your body’, ‘I like your shape’. That gave me the inspiration to sing for these people to tell their girlfriends or their wives or partners or anybody in their life that ‘I like your body’.

“We use the phrase ‘I Like’ all the time, so this song is about everything I like. My target listeners are both male and female, I sing for everyone. I just want Afrobeat to be heard in a different way. I love music I love my own sound and that type of sound can be appreciated at any day or at any time, it is evergreen.”

According to Naeomi, who is also the 2016 Miss Nigeria, UK, she started singing as far back as the age of nine and even performed for ex-governor Peter Odili.

“While growing up and considering my Christian background, I must not miss church services. As a little girl, growing up was adventurous. And even though my loving dad is late now, I know he’s still watching over me and whom he always referred to as ‘my queen’.

“I discovered that I could sing when I was nine years old. During school events, I was always chosen to sing. We once went for a presentation at the Civic Centre Port Harcourt and I performed with the then governor, Dr Peter Odili, his wife and other dignitaries in attendance.

“I sang a self-composed song, ‘Let there be peace in Niger Delta, let there be peace in Nigeria’.

“Also, during the talent exhibition at the five beauty pageants I have participated in, including the 2016 Miss Nigeria UK. Music is in my soul and it’s like a discovery for me and anyone that hears my songs,” she shared.

Describing her kind of music, she said, “My kind of music is Afro, pure Afro. Sometimes, I just say I’m the female Fela and female African Giant. Just the way we have the likes of ‘Wizkid’, ‘Burna Boy, African Giant and so on. We have many great musicians but, my own is different.”

On making more music, she shared, “I’m just going to focus on this single right now, but my fans should expect an album from me sometime next year.

“I plan to collaborate with some artistes, and at the moment, I have some artistes I have worked with and I’m working with, but I won’t mention names now. I’ll leave that to be a huge surprise till my EP drops or my next single drops.

“Music has evolved, and everyone has their unique sound, creativity, strength and weaknesses. Afrobeat is global now and I love the effort everyone puts in making music, the creativity is beyond imagination, the stress, and the hard work.”
