Power Changes Hands in Barcelona, Man. Utd
Two of World’s most successful clubs, Barcelona Football Club and Manchester United Football Club have announced the appointment of new coaches.
Barcelona have appointed Luis Enrique as their new first-team coach on a two-year deal.
The 44-year-old former Barca player, who managed the club’s B team between 2005 and 2011, left his role as Celta Vigo boss last week.
The Catalan side parted company with manager Gerardo Martino after finishing second to Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Manchester United also have named Louis van Gaal as their new manager, with Ryan Giggs as his assistant.
Van Gaal, 62, has signed a three-year contract to succeed David Moyes.
The Dutchman, who has won titles with Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AZ Alkmaar, will take charge at Old Trafford after leading the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Meanwhile Barcelona have announced the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Stegen will replace Valdes whose contract with the former Spanish Champions expired last weekend.
