Again, Fire Guts Okobaba Plank Market In Lagos
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, among others are currently battling to put out the fire.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency was having difficulty responding to the incident because of hoodlums.
“The agency’s fire unit has responded to the above incident and is currently working to control the fire alongside Lagos Fire and Federal Fire Services.
“The agency has made a request for security cover as hoodlums and miscreants are hampering the efforts of the joint responders,” he said.
The Deputy Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ogabi Olajide, in a tweet, disclosed that make-shift commercial shops of various sizes and patterns used in trading and stocking of woods were gutted by the fire.
“Crews deployed copious water and chemical foam compound to douse the raging Fire. The shanties Saw Mill fire spread due to the nature of the combustible substances involved in the expanse vast land sweeping through market”, he revealed.
He however advised the public to be rest assured that the fire has been curtailed from spreading further and poses no threat to life and further damages.
