Residents of Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State, have expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari will win the February 16 presidential election.

The residents, who spoke during an opinion poll conducted by Lagos Times, believed that, the good work being initiated under the ruling All Progressives Congress [APC] led government would be enough to return President Buhari back to power.

In his words, a merchandizer, Hunton Jacob, said ‘during Atiku and Obasanjo regime, the record of corruption was so high. And if we look at it critically Obasanjo and Atiku regime was what we are still going through till date. The only difference was that there was no massacre during their tenure.

“Buhari is not that corrrupt compare to the afore mentioned. Although things are hard now during his four years tenure. But I believe, if given another chance, there would be a lot of positive changes.”

Also speaking to Lagos Times, David Owolabi, a final year student of Ibadan Polytechnic, said, “basically at the moment one can’t easily predict who will win the election but on my own side, I think Buhari will win because he has been active and has done lot of things to help the country stand upright again.

“I know my opinion might not be accepted by all but we all know that if you achieve something good 100 times and you fail another once or twice, people will only concentrate on your major failure and will forget about your achievements.

“I won’t say the two are the ones ruling the country, there are some cabals who are doing that underneath. Atiku becoming the president will pave way for other PDP members who were unable to syphon money, looters will rise again and they start afresh their game from where they stopped in year 2015. So I think and hope Buhari will win the election.”

Furthermore, Ola Adeosun, an entrepreneur, also believed that Buhari deserved a second tenure.

He said, “though it’s gonna be a very close run, but looking at the nation’s commitment to the APC rally, though the crowd doesn’t determine election but it’s also a factor; It’s quite obvious the the North already hand in their support to the sitting president. And there is 99% of assurance he will also get votes from the South west.”

In his own opinion, Mr Nurudeen Salako, a political reader, believed that the present administration had an edge over the opposition party to win the election.

“Remember, last week, the electoral umpire, INEC released the number of registered votes who are eligible to votes ahead of the forthcoming elections, and most of the states who have most registered voters are the APC states, even Lagos only almost have 60% registered votes of the south south region which we know that those sides are for the opposition party.

“Statistically, if all APC States can deliver their states for the Kastina-born military man cum politician and with the so call mighty federal power, which I know you understand better than I do.

“President Buhari is on the verge to complete his eight years tenure in Aso Rock,” he said.

However, in a direct contradiction, Mr Mayowa Abiodun of Eleyele axis, believed that Nigerians ought to elect a new president, other than Buhari or Atiku.

According to him, “non of them deserves to be our president. Enough of these old men with nothing in their brains. Let us reelect new candidate with intellects.”

In the same vein, Miss Omowunmi Aminat, a trader, said, “I am not into politics actually, so whoever win is their business, because nothing is going to change positively in Nigeria, as long as these old people continue to rule us.”
