The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Major General Suleiman Kazaure, has admonished corps members, who will be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to be partisan during the forthcoming general elections.
Kazaure said this today (Tuesday) while addressing Oyo State corps members at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, which was witnessed by Lagos Times.
According to the DG, NYSC was a non partisan organization, and all corp members must display high sense of integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The NYSC boss, who urged the corp members to be security conscious during the polls, assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure their safety before, during and after the elections.
“There will be adequate security for you during and aft the elections but if you sense any foul movement that can amount to crisis, please, leave the election materials and ensure you run for safety to the nearest police station,” he said.
The DG warned corps members to resist any form of financial inducements from politicians during the polls, noting that any corps member that violates the electoral law would be dealt with accordingly.
The NYSC boss also explained that he has no knowledge of the amount of money to be remunerated by INEC, to the corp members, who will work as ad-hoc staff, but implored them to work with utmost transparency, regardless the amount.
“I don’t know the amount of money to be paid by INEC, they are the ones that knows that but make sure you discharge your duties well.
“There’s probability that the number of corp members to be chosen will be low but everyone of you must show diligence at the training because only the best will be picked,” the DG said.
