Twenty-seven lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Thelagostimes gathered that the lawmakers, who were elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, announced their decision during Monday’s plenary at the Rivers Assembly Complex.
According to The Punch, the affected lawmakers are said to be the ones loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, reportedly summoned an emergency executive council meeting.
The meeting is expected to discuss the defection of 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly from the PDP to the APC.
The crisis in the 32-member Assembly had begun as a result of a rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
