…As Okorocha orders arrest of two managers.
These days, the Owerri, Imo State branches of two popular banks Access Bank and Ecobank resemble a hive of restive bees as top management frantically run hither and yon in a bid to avoid being crushed by the executive hammer which is aimed in their direction.
The two banks are in the eye of the storm following the non payment of the October and November salaries of Imo State local government workers. When the governor of Imo, Owelle Rochas Okorocha got wind of the development, he transformed into a vengeful god and demanded for heads to roll.
Stella Udogwu, the state’s accountant-general who was fingered in the ploy to profit from the local government workers’ salaries through the accruage of interest in the banks was unceremoniously booted out of office.
Two top bank managers of Access and Ecobank have been offered as sacrificial lambs to appease the governor’s ire. He has ordered them arrested and grilled. They are likely to spend the yuletide cooling their heels behind bars.
However, the top echelons of the banks who are very popular in the state have been making entreaties to the governor in a bid to ensure the incident doesn’t result in a withdrawal of the state government’s lucrative patronage..
However, those in the know scooped to Lagos Times that it will take more than a few rounds of pleadings for governor Rochas to pardon the two banks for what he sees as a heinous crime.
