The city of Lagos is already experiencing a massive influx of dignitaries in anticipation of the grandaddy of all wedding receptions between Fatima, daughter of Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote and Jamil, son of former Inspector General of police MD Abubakar.
Slated for Friday March 23 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, the star-studded affair has been billed as the wedding shindig to end all wedding shindigs. With the sheer amount of opulence and grandeur that will be on display, most so-called 5-star weddings will be reduced to a pauper’s ceremony in comparison.
If what happened in the first two legs in Kano and Abuja is anything to go by, the expected humongous party will contain enough pomp to last a lifetime. The creme de la creme of high society will be in attendance. And this is despite the no-alcohol policy: there will be more than enough of spectacular food, drink and music to intoxicate everybody.
If rumours are anything to go buy, Juju music maestro King Sunny Ade is set to dish out evergreen notes on the bandstand, ably supported by other popular names who are raring to go in front of an all-star cast of the popular, the rich and the powerful.
Not one to do things in half measure, Aliko Dangote is going all out to redefine what it means to host a wedding reception. No less than 5 presidents and all the past Nigerian heads of state are billed to storm the event. The icing on the cake is Microsoft Founder Bill Gates who is also coming to party with the newlyweds.
As the hour of kickoff draws ever nigh, high society is in a last-minute frenzy to lay hands on the few remaining tickets to the mouthwatering event. Easier said than done as the stylized invitation cards seem to have developed wings and flown away.
