Conceived on the idea of an awareness outreach combining dance, a popular pastime with a necessary component of good living, the 2019 edition of the Lagos Food Bank Danceathon Campaign for Nutrition will take place on Saturday April 27 at police College ground, Ikeja ,Lagos
The Dancethon, according to its organisers, aims to raise awareness on the importance of nutrition and exercise to health and wellbeing.
It will beam a needed searchlight on the interdependent relationship between healthy eating and healthy living.
Aside giving the general public a fun means to dance away excess body fats and gain a new appreciation for the benefits of aerobics, it is also a chance for volunteers of community outreaches to stretch their legs.
Often too busy making a difference in the community to pay much heed to their own physical shape, the ocassion will help them recharge and learn how to keep their bodies in the best possible shape for the tasks to come.
The event is also a platform to share knowledge about fitness and encourage participants to carry on a lifestyle of fitness.
In a clime that pays lip service to weight and physique maintainance, it is extremely important to educate the general populace on the physical, psychological, mental and emotional benefits of regular exercise. Working out regularly has been shown to help with obesity and other health-related issues.
The event will also flag off the food bank’s ambitious Nutritious Meal Plan for Vulnerable Mothers and Children (NUMEPLAN) project. The initiative will beam of spotlight on the plight of underfed indigent families, especially the women and children while plotting a plan to give as many of them as possible continuous access to nutritious meals.
