An All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Delta, Chief O’Tega Emerhor has commended the peaceful conduct of the party’s Local Government congresses in the state.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Ughelli, Emerhor said that Ughelli North, where he hailed from, had a unity list that covered the interest of all the party members.
Emerhor, who was an APC governorship candidate in the 2015 general election, said that same was applicable to other Local Government Areas in the state.
“We have a very peaceful congress and the reason is that in Ughelli North, for instance, we have a unity list that covers all interest.
” We reconciled ourselves and came here just to do affirmation and I understand that is what happened all over the state.
“I led about seven governorship aspirants in the state that agreed to work on each of the local government so that we do not fight ourselves.
“We came up with a list that covered everybody’s interest so that we can have a peaceful Congress.
“Congress as long as it covers the interest of the people, generate trust and peace so from Delta North to Delta South everything have gone well,” he said.
Emerhor, however, said that there was a faction that did not join the unity group noting that they are in the minority.
“I do not know why they did not join the unity group, however, the majority always win that is why we have internal democracy.
“Our message to them is to embrace the unity group, the APC door is opened to all members. The unity list does not exclude anybody.
“In unity, we stand, so we invite them to stop fighting and join the unity train, ” he said.
Also, Mr Daniel Ekori, one of the party officials sent from the APC National Headquarters to conduct the Ughelli North congress express joy at the peaceful exercise.
“The election was very peaceful, I thank the people of Ughelli North for the manner they conducted themselves.
” We have conducted the Congress and we have the officials that have been duly elected for the next four years term,” he said
Tribuneonline reports that the Congress in Warri South was also conducted peacefully.
Meanwhile, following the crisis that rocked last Saturday’s ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, leaders of the party at all levels, had earlier reached an agreement for a harmonised list on Friday to avert fresh squabble in today’s local government congress in the state.
It was gathered that the decision was reached in Abuja at a meeting attended by all prominent stakeholders including seven governorship aspirants on the platform of the APC.
Tribuneonline reliably gathered that the outcome of the meeting on Friday evening was to forestall further division in the party ahead of the 2019 elections in the state.
The source said “unity list” is what the national working committee has approved Congressy’s congress as delegates in the 25 local government areas in the state.”
It was also learnt that the national leadership was also making frantic efforts to unite the various blocs in the party as President Muhammadu Buhari was interested in grabbing Delta from the ruling People’s Democratic Party in 2019.
Tribuneonline further gathered from sources close to the Chief Great Ogboru/Senator Ovie Omo-Agege camp that they were plotting to hold a parallel congress in the 25 LG against the already reached decision of the party.
