Some bandits have killed Dr Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State.

According to a report by DailyPost, two of Dr Gyang’s children and two other women were also abducted during the midnight onslaught in the school neighbourhood.

The deceased, Dr Gyang, was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University.

Sources said the bandits invaded his residence at Low-cost Quarters, behind Comprehensive Hospital in Dutsinma at about 1:00 am firing gunshots.

”We started hearing gunshots a little after 1:00 am. The bandits seemed to be much. We later learnt that Dr Tiri was killed and his two children abducted. His remains have been taken to a mortuary in Katsina,” a source was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, the FUDMA Public Relations Officer is yet to respond to phone calls put through to him; however, some staff of the university confirmed the incident on their social media handles. Several students also took to social media to mourn the deceased.

Ahmed Jafar Waziri wrote: “What a tragic news. Bandits killed Dr. Tiri and kidnapped his family. He was the last person to call me yesterday about issues in his faculty at 11:30 pm. We were supposed to meet today at 8 AM in my office.

“The university and Dutsinma communities are deeply affected by this loss.”
