Former governor of Ekiti state Ayodele Fayose, has been granted N50 million bail by the federal high court in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, arraigned the governor. The charges against Fayose were stealing, receiving money from Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister, criminal breach of trust, illegal acquisition of property in Abuja and Lagos and illegally acquiring property in the name of his sister in Abuja, among others.
Fayose, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ forum, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
Subsequently, his counsel, Kanu Agabi, filed a bail application on behalf of his client but Mojisola Olatoregun, the presiding judge, said the application would be considered later since he is entitled to bail.
Justice Olatoregun ordered that the former Ekiti governor should remain in EFCC custody till Wednesday.
At the resumption of proceedings today, the presiding judge granted N50 million to the former governor.
