BREAKING: Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Announces 50% Reduction In BRT Fare, Rolls Out Palliatives

Lagos State governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 50 per cent reduction in transport fare on all Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) routes beginning from Wednesday, August 2.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday at the Lagos House, Ikeja, the governor added that modalities have also been put in place by the informal transportation sector, especially the yellow buses, popularly known as danfo, to slash their charges by 25 per cent.

According to him, the decision had since been communicated to LAMATA, while, the authorities of Lagos Park and Garage are already deliberating on the modality to carry their members along on ways to ensure seamless implementation concerning the yellow buses.

He further disclosed that the state government is working towards rolling out palliatives to cushion the harsh economic situation in the country. He added that the state will soon commence distribution of food packs such as rice, beans and cassava flour (garri) to vulnerable people in the state.

According to him, the distribution will be done through the Community Development Associations, CDAs, churches, mosques, and local government.
