A federal capital territory (FCT) high court has dismissed the statement of Maryam Sanda, who is accused of killing her husband, Bilyamin Mohammed Bello.
The court found her guilty, hence sentenced her to death by hanging.
The Nigeria police charged Sanda culpable homicide in 2017 and death penalty against the accused.
Justice Yusuf Halibut Said there was concrete and compelling proofs to convict the accuse.
The judgment threw out a statement that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a scuffle, describing it as a ‘smokescreen to deceive the court’
He added that evidence before the court indicated that the accused stabbed her husband with kitchen knife with intent to ‘kill’
It is gathered that as the Judge read the verdict pronouncing Ms Sanda guilty, the accused tried to flee the court room, while her family started protesting, causing commotion and melee which are geared towards currying public sympathy and soft landing
Bello, nephew of Haliru Mohammed Bello, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was killed in November, 2017.
