President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled the re-designed Naira Notes proposed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The president unveiled the new 1000, 500 and 200 naira notes on Wednesday morning before the federal executive council (FEC) meeting at the state house, Abuja.
The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele had on Tuesday, said that the president will unveil the newly designed N1,000, N500 and N200 notes.
Emefiele, who was in attendance during the unveiling ceremony, said the introduction of new notes was a deliberate step by government to check corruption and counterfeiting of the notes. He added that the naira notes currently in use will remain as legal tenders till 31st January, 2023.
Also present at the ceremony were the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of staff to the president, Ibrahim Gambari and Folashade Yemi-Esan, head of civil service of the federation.
