No fewer than 71 people were killed on Monday when a car laden with improvised explosive devices (IEDS) went off at the Nyanya Motor Park at about 6.55am, leaving 124 others seriously injured.
Dr. Adetoun Sotimehin, the Chief Medical Director of Maitama General hospital where scores of the victims were rushed to, confirmed that 14 dead bodies including women, men and youth were in the mortuary, two persons were on danger list (critical condition) while 27 others who sustained injuries were receiving treatment.
At Asokoro General Hospital, Ahmadu Abubakar, the Chief Medical Director confirmed that 27 dead bodies were brought to the hospital with 25 others receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries.
The National Hospital Abuja confirmed that 30 bodies were taken to the Mortuary while 40 of those injured were receiving treatment for injuries sustained.
There were dead bodies and injured victims at the Wuse General Hospital but the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Obiora Chibundu was not forthcoming in telling reporters the number of victims.
The Nigeria Police have said that no more than 71 persons were confirmed dead while 124 were injured.
About 40 vehicles, including luxury buses and private cars, were burnt in the ensuing inferno that trailed the explosion.
