Ekiti Elections: Kayode Fayemi Goes to War with Tinubu

The desires of the ambitious often leave no room for sentiments. Determined to soar on the wings of glory at all costs, many a man will wade through slaughter to a throne.  He will grasp the diadem of victory with hands stained red from the blood of present foes and former allies alike.
Though a candle loses nothing by lighting another, this is not the case when both are competing to illumine the same room. Erstwhile Ekiti governor Kayode Fayemi, having bounced back from the ignominy of defeat at the polls, is allegedly gearing up for another crack at the office. In doing so he will have to go up against his estranged godfather Bola Tinubu, who has already handpicked a preferred candidate for the party.
Fayemi and the leader of the All Progressives Congress first butted head at the last Ondo guber polls. Fayemi boldly threw his weight behind Rotimi Akeredolu to Tinubu’s dismay. The sting of betrayal felt by the APC national leader was only compounded when his chosen candidate was soundly trounced at the primaries by Akeredolu who went on to emerge Ondo governor.
Still coasting on the clouds after that “triumph” over his mentor, Fayemi has again mobilized his armada for war in Ekiti. But the terrain has changed and the minister for mines and solid minerals in President Buhari administration will be facing an uphill battle this time.
Not only will he be facing the might of Tinubu who is itching to put him in his place, he also has to contend against the forces of the incumbent Ayo Fayose who already dealt him a painful and devastating defeat last time around. Will the student once again prevail over the master?
As the intrigue hots up between Fayemi, Fayose and Tinubu’s preferred candidate Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the minister whose recent extravagances have been making the rounds is hoping to lean on federal might to prevail against Tinubu’s total control of the APC machinery in the state
