The office of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka, the Anambra State capital was gutted by fire on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the fire started at about 2:10pm today from a container bearing election materials dispatched to the centre earlier.
DAILY POST gathered that part of the materials in the container are card readers to be used for Saturday’s election.
Confirming the incident, Head of Public Relations Unit and voter education of the commission, Leo Nkedife confirmed said he has also been informed of the fire.
“I am not in the office, but I have been called and told of the fire, and the story is that part of the office that got burnt is containing smartcard readers,” he said.
