JUST IN: FG Postpones 2020 WAEC, NECO Indefinitely

The Nigerian government on Tuesday anounced the indefinite postponement of the Senior School Certificate Examination organised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) for 2020.

The postponement is part of the measures to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as the virulent infection has had a crunching and debilitating impact on every imaginable sector.

 

Emeka Nwajubu, Minister of state for education made the announcement this during a press briefing monitored by LagosTimes.

He said the student can learn by virtual process as the government has put in place modalities for the feasibility of such arrangements.

 

“WAEC and NECO for the year have been postponed indefinitely.

 

“The students can learn online, we have made a lot of provision for that. The director of FCT has also opened a portal for the process

 

“We are working with the ministry of information to escalate education content to provide for everyone at home.

 

On children who do not have the gadgets and amenities that would afford them the opportunity to be part of such plan, he said : “Our biggest challenge is to reach children who do not have devices but we are working with radio corporations to instil some of that for primary and secondary students .”
