The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released its 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

Registrar of the council, Godswill Obioma broke the news while speaking on Wednesday at the exam body’s headquarters in Minna, Niger state.

A total of 1,221,447 candidates registered for the exam out of which 665,830 were male and 555,617 female.

According to Obioma, 1,102,041 candidates of the 1,209,992 that sat for the exam passed with credit and above while 894,101 candidates had credit and above in English and Maths.

The registrar noted that 33,470 cases of malpractices were recorded during the exam as 12 schools and 24 supervisors were found to have been involved.

He also stated that the offenses range from poor supervision to aiding and conniving with non-candidates to write answers on chalkboards.

“The Council has a long standing tradition for zero tolerance for malpractices. Thus, it can be noticed that the malpractices incidence in 2020 dropped compared to the figure of 2019,” Obioma said.

According to him, arrangements have been made for candidates who missed some of the exams as a result of the nationwide #EndSARS protests in October last year.

Some of the states affected include Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Edo, Ondo, and some centres in Rivers, Abia, Enugu and the FCT.
