A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Agbo Major, has expelled Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Arise News reports.

Recall that last week, Kwankwaso was placed on suspension by the NNPP board of trustees (BoT), which is chaired by the party’s founder Boniface Aniebonam.

However, a Kwankwaso-supporting faction of the party reversed the suspension.

A disciplinary committee was also established by the party’s national executive council to look into Kwankwaso’s alleged involvement in anti-party actions and improper handling of party funds.

Within five days of receiving the invitation, the former governor of Kano was instructed to appear before the committee.

The NEC had warned that Kwankwaso would be expelled in line with the provisions of the NNPP’s constitution if he failed to appear before the disciplinary committee.

Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the acting national publicity secretary for the NNPP, stated in a statement on Tuesday that the NEC decided to expel him for refusing to honor the invitation from the committee.

“Following the refusal of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to appear before the Disciplinary Committee which sat on Thursday 31st August 2023 after being duly invited in writing, he is hereby expelled from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” Abdulrasaq said.

Abdulrasaq added that Kwankwaso would be reported to appropriate quarters to answer questions on “financial impropriety relating to mismanagement of public funds.”
