Chinelo Nwando Megafu, a dental surgeon who died from gunshot wounds she sustained in the deadly attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train has been laid to rest in Lagos.

Thelagostimes gathered that a memorial funeral service was held for her at the Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, on Thursday.

Until her death, she was 27 years old.

In an emotional laden voice, father of the deceased, Engr Ifeanyi Megafu stated that he has forgiven all those who made annoying comments when his daughter needed help, as well the government that failed in protecting her citizens.

“Chinelo, the first child of the family, scored many firsts and was a trailblazer all through her time here.

“Gentle, brilliant, beautiful, conscientious and soft spoken, she blazed and shone all round, garnering laurels in academics, sports, music and her chosen career of a life saver for which she had so much zeal and passion.

“To those that taunted and doubted her at that last moment while she was praying and asked for our prayers, you have our forgiveness”, he said.

He also called on the Federal government to “fix Nigeria” and save the country from slipping further.

In their tribute, the Nigeria Medical and Dental Association regretted the huge loss to the association and country as a whole, especially with the recent statistics of one dentist to about 47,000 Nigerians.

Thelagostimes had earlier reported that some gunmen, on 28th March, attacked a Kaduna-bound train, blowing up the rail track after which they launched an attack on the passengers.

Several passengers reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.

Shortly after the attack, Chinelo was said to have posted on her Twitter handle that she was shot in the train, while calling for prayers from her followers.

“I’m in the train . I have been shot please pray for me”, she had tweeted.
