Katsina Attacks: President Buhari Sympathises With Victims, Calls For Security Reinforcement

Following the violence and loss of lives in Katsina State on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed immediate reinforcement of the security architecture in the state, and prosecution of all those involved in the conflict.

The President also commiserated with families that lost loved ones in the attacks from herdsmen, assuring the state that the security structure will be further strengthened to avoid unnecessary violence between herdsmen and communities.

He further warned herdsmen and communities to stop taking the law into their hands by resorting to violence at every provocation, adding that the herdsmen returning from the South due to the rainy season must respect the boundaries of farmers and villagers, while the communities must refrain from attacking herdsmen.

Thelagostimes recalls that the Katsina State Police Command confirmed on Thursday that 11 residents of communities in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state were killed on Wednesday by bandits in separate attacks.

It was gathered that about 16 persons were also murdered in the Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the bandits struck in Maidabino while trading was going on at the local market.

A source had told Punch, “The bandits suddenly arrived while trading was going on at the Maidabino Market and started shooting indiscriminately. People had to run for safety. Sixteen people were killed in the attack.

“We initially recovered 10 bodies, while additional six bodies were recovered this morning (Thursday). We have taken the two people, who sustained gunshot injuries, to the Dutsin-ma General Hospital for treatment.”
