These days it is bedlam in the political arena as incumbents and hopefuls alike forge useful strategic alliances and break off obsolete ones all in a bid to position themselves maximally come 2019. Amidst all the furore, one man who is certain to be resting easy is Akinwunmi Ambode. The likable governor of Lagos has been collecting second-term endorsements from left, right and centre in recent weeks.
The latest group to come out publicly to pledge their loyalty to Ambode is the Lagos East chapter of the ruling APC under the able leadership of Otunba Bushura Alebiosu. During the General Assembly of the chapter held on Thursday, prominent members such as Otunba Olorunfunmi Bashorun, Senator Gbenga Ashafa and Hon Joko Pelumi spoke with one voice for the governor to “carry go” in his bid to stay in office for another term.
The ringing endorsement by the party faithful is not unconnected with Governor Ambode’s sterling performance. So huge is the impact he has made in office so far that not a few people are already dubbing him, perhaps prematurely, the best executive the Centre of Excellence has ever had.
Although the governor is not actively campaigning for a second term ticket for now, preferring to squarely face his job of taking Lagos to the next level, those in the know are intimating that the APC governorship ticket for 2019 already has Ambode’s name written all oamver it.
