The Lagos state government on Thursday sealed off the popular Agege Central Mosque in Agege local government area of the state after violation of ban on large gatherings amid COVID-19 pandemic
The shutdown of the mosque that’s mostly used by the Hausas followed a clash between some worshippers and members of the task force monitoring the compliance with ban on large gatherings.
The officials were reportedly assaulted in the line of duty while trying to enforce compliance with the ban.
The state government announced the shutdown of the mosque on its official twitter handle.
“The Lagos State COVID-19 Taskforce, mandated by LASG to monitor and enforce compliance against public gatherings exceeding 25 people, was on Tuesday attacked by some Muslim worshippers at the Agege Central Mosque,” the Lagos state official handle had tweeted.
Chief press secretary to the governor of Lagos, Gboyega Akosile, said the mosque was disinfected after it was shut.
