Lagosians Called…Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Answered

To get Nigeria working, Nigeria government and Nigerians must go beyond talking on national TVs and local radios, Nigerians must hold, tacitly, the truth of pragmatism: truth is what works. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, unlike many Nigerian Governors, has stopped doling high promises which he knows is unattainable to the growth of the nation. Instead, he lets his actions do all the talking he will ever need.

The governor of Lagos has begun the implementation of the proposed budget to make the state the Eldorado foreseen when it was carved out of the old western region. .

The ability of any government to inject the citizens with euphoria is the needed salt of a good democracy. The Lagos State Government, on Sunday, has declared a state of emergency on various pot-holed roads, highways and carriages within Lagos State. This call on a state of emergency is an effort to renovate the dilapidated roads, highways and carriages. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday at the Lagos House Marina, ordered massive construction work on critical roads and highways across the State.

Sanwo-Olu’s order followed the end of his series of meetings with eight multinational engineering firms, which began a few weeks back. After his final meeting with the contractors on Sunday, which lasted for about three hours, Sanwo-Olu declared the commencement of major construction work on the identified highways considered critical to the reduction of traffic congestion in the state.

The construction or renovation of these dilapidated roads and highways will not only reduce traffic congestion in the state, it will also reduce the number of deaths that occurred due to bad drainage. The man who flew into office on the wings of the Jagaban of Lagos has decided that it was high time the suffering citizens be given wings of their own to fly unimpeded around the state. And what better wings than good, motorable roads?

However, without pain, no kind of gain is possible. The call on state of emergency will temporarily reduce people’s activities. As the renovation and construction begins, it will affect the smooth movement of travellers but by the end of the project, it will amount to greater change, life on the road will be much easier, better and safer. In the words of the ancient philosopher, Heraclitus, “strife is a necessary condition for change”.
