The Nigerian Army’s guards brigade has organised a special parade in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari who clocked 76 today (Monday).
The ceremony, which has in attendance heads of the nation’s security agencies and members of the federal cabinet, is was held at the forecourt of the president ‘s office at the State House Presidential Villa Abuja.
Vanguard reports that the various military display started when the President arrived the venue around 12.22p.m with the rendition of the National anthem.
It was the first elaborate ceremony marking his birthday since the inception of the administration in 2015.
After the parade, Mr Buhari also cut a birthday cake made in the nation’s national colours, green and white.
Meanwhile, the president has continued to receive goodwill messages from within and outside the country.
Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau, who congratulated the president on his 76th birthday, noted with delight that Buhari had changed the negative narrative about Nigeria among the comity of nations with his fight against corruption.
“Your Excellency, you have succeeded in changing the hitherto negative narrative about Nigeria and its attendant image in the comity of nations.
“Buhari successfully did it within a record time of his first tenure in office.’’
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also felicitated with Buhari.
NANS’ message was signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday.
Okereafor said that Buhari, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), had displayed great commitment in repositioning Africa for growth and economic sustainability.
“The national secretariat of NANS joins the World, ECOWAS and Progressive minded Nigerians in wishing our beloved President and ECOWAS Chairman, Muhammadu Buhari a happy 76th birthday.
“Mr President, no doubt, has consistently displayed an unrivaled commitment to a better Africa and Nigeria,’’ he said.
