An unidentified adult male driver has been confirmed dead following a multiple truck accident that occurred on Kara Bridge, Lagos State, on Wednesday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, made this known in a statement signed by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

Okunbor disclosed that the incident occurred at 4:26 AM on Wednesday, adding that the multiple vehicle accident involved a truck laden with several rolls of steel coils and a 40ft container without the truck head.

“Investigation conducted by the Agency’s Response Team revealed that the articulated truck driver, while in motion, lost control in a bid to avoid a collision with the 40-foot container on the road.

“The truck then fell on its side, resulting in the discharge of its cargo (coils of steel) onto the carriageway,” Okunbor added.

In total, seven vehicles were involved in the two accidents. They are: Volks Wagen Bus with vehicle no KJA436YD, Nissan Urvan with registration no CO1203Rs, an articulated Mack Truck with registration number T17083LA, another Mack with no vehicle registration, a blue-coloured Iveco articulated truck with registration number KMC594ZQ, Toyota Hiace bus with registration number 14C241DT and a Sino articulated truck with registration number AAB440XC.

The LASEMA spokesperson said, “An unidentified adult male driver lost his life in the incident, and the body had been removed before the arrival of the Agency’s Response Team.”

Okunbor added that LASEMA’s response team is coordinating the recovery operation, while collaborative efforts are ongoing to quickly evacuate the impediments from the road and restore vehicular activity.
