One person was, on Monday, killed in an explosion that rocked Golden Penny Flour Mills in Surulere area of Lagos State.
The explosion created panic around the busy Eric Moore area of the state before the arrival of firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service.
The cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that it affected the company’s boiler.
Firefighters, who arrived at the scene of the incident, expecting to see fire, were surprised to see only the body of a 35-year-old company worker.
A factory worker along Eric Moore Road told Tribune Online that “it was a very loud sound. Everybody was jolted by the explosion. Nobody could say precisely what happened or where it happened. It was later that we heard that it was from Golden Penny Flour.”
The factory worker added that “one person was killed in the explosion. It affected their boiler. It might have been caused by overheating.”
