Pro-democracy campaigner and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has been attacked in Abuja following the #FreeSowore rally held on Monday, 23 December.

Thelagostimes gathered that Adeyanju was attacked by a group which came to counter the protest.

It was also gathered that Adeyanju who was one of the leaders of the protest, was hospitalised after sustaining bruises on his left arm.

According to Premium Times, the protest held on Monday morning after the expiration of a two-week ultimatum which activists issued to president Mohammadu Buhari to order immediate compliance to outstanding court orders by federal law enforcement authorities. The Lagos leg of the demonstration also held in Lagos on Monday with light attendance.

It was planned after security agents from the State Security Service invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja and arrested Omoyele Sowore, an activist and newspaper publisher first arrested in August.

Meanwhile, former aviation minister, Femi Fani Kayode reacted to the attack on Adeyanju via his verified Twitter handle.

His tweet reads: “The brutal attack on Deji Adeyanju @adeyanjudeji this morning is totally unacceptable. This represents a new low by those that are behind it. We hold the Government and their agents responsible and accountable for this wicked act. May God judge those behind it!”
