The Edo state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has expressed his desire to compete for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in the forthcoming party primaries, ahead of the state’s governorship election in 2024.

Shaibu made his declaration known in a pre-recorded televised announcement on Monday morning.

“As your deputy governor in the last seven years, I have had the privilege of working closely with our amiable governor, Godwin Obaseki, to lay a solid foundation for the progress in Edo State,” he said.

Thelagostimes gathered that following his declaration, Shaibu inaugurated his campaign office in Benin City, the state’s capital.

“After all the consultations we have made, we needed to now make the answer to our consultations known to our people. And the answer is clear: they have asked me to run,” Shaibu added.

Shaibu is from Edo North Senatorial District, the same district as ex-governor of the state and current lawmaker representing the district in the 10th National Assembly, Adams Oshiomhole.
