As the rumble in the jungle of Lagos politics grows louder ahead of 2019, the hopes of some longstanding representatives of the state is set to be deflated like a punctured tyre if indications are anything to go by. According to rumours making the rounds, an “order from above” has been handed down for them to pack their bags and vacate the positions they occupy for others.
Whispers indicate that the senate majority leader Hon Femi Gbajabiamila who has been representing Surulere Federal Constituency since 2003 is among those blacklisted. Another name being bandied about is Tunde Buraimoh, the former chairman of Kosofe Local Government who is currently representing Kosofe II constituency in the Lagos state house of assembly.
The two of them are among a list of people from local government to national assembly level who have been told to forget about 2019 because their political journey has reached its last bus stop.
The godfather of Lagos State politics Asiwaju Bola Tinubu reportedly gathered the party’s top stalwarts in the state and told them point blank that there will be no return ticket for some elected officials who have been representing the state for donkey years. With this development, the APC national leader has driven a nail into the coffin of their political ambitions.
Expectedly, this news has generated huge ruckus in some quarters as some of those affected have vowed to defy Tinubu and secure the party’s ticket for the umpteenth time. Some have even threatened to leave the APC and seek comfort in the arms of another party in a bid to prolong their stay in office by all means possible.
