Microblogging site, Twitter has reacted to the Nigerian Government’s decision to lift the restrictions placed on it in Nigeria since June.
“We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria and around the world is to serve the public conversation,” Twitter’s Public Policy team said in a tweet on Thursday.
The tech giant added that it is deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation.
Thelagostimes had earlier reported that the Federal government lifted the suspension on Twitter operations in the country, effective from 12am, January 13, 2022.
in a press statement on Wednesday signed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi, the FG revealed that the approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.
