Applause…As Billionaire Businessman, Femi Otedola Donates N5bilion To Save The Children Foundation
One of Africa’s wealthiest men, Femi Otedola has again exhibited his philanthropy with his huge donation to ‘Save The children’ foundation.
Yesterday Sunday, November 10, 2019, his singer daughter, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy launched her Cuppy Foundation in aid of Save the Children’s Work in Nigeria.
The launch had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the Special Guest of Honour.
According to DJ Cuppy, who is the Save the Children Ambassador, “The gold gala was just the start in driving awareness and creating change for our precious Nigerian children. Save the Children believes that children are our future and the future is now.”
At the event, Otedola stunned the guests by donating a whooping N5billion to the cause that is dearest to his daughter’s heart. Described as one of the largest individual donations to a philanthropic cause in Africa, those who heard are shrieking in shock and surprise.
Otedola, who was represented by another one of his daughters, Tolani, made the announcement after which she received a standing ovation from guests in attendance.
Tolani said, “My father, Mr. Femi Otedola, has been at the forefront of supporting worthy causes.
“It is in this spirit that he will be donating the sum of N5bn to the children of Borno, Adamawa and Katsina through the Save the Children.”
While many have typically been speculating that Otedola may be on a philanthropic spree for political considerations, the gangling man of means has repeatedly told those close to him that giving back to humanity is his only motive.
Incidentally, in the last year alone, he has been responsible for the revival of the lives of some prominent Nigerians. Just recently, the benevolent billionaire took up the medical expenses of the famous reggae icon, Majek Fashek, who is terribly sick and stranded in London.
Confirming the story and sounding the alarm of the critical state of the ‘Rainmaker’, who is currently receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, London, his manager, Uzoma Day Omenka, painted a pathetic picture of the dire situation the musician is in. Thankfully, Mr Otedola is taking care of the hospital bill fully and this has thrown Nigerians across the world into fits of joy.
Also in his spirit of benevolence,te businessman extraordinaire spent N36,635,000 for the medical bills of former captain and coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu.
Chukwu had major surgery and treatment at the Wellington Hospital, London, courtesy Otedola. In May, Otedola also came to the aid of Peter Fregene, a former Green Eagles goalkeeper, who had been bedridden since 2001.
He is currently also footing the medical bills of popular actor, Victor Olaotan, a lead character in the popular TV soap opera series, Tinsel, in a Turkish hospital.
Otedola has also reportedly taken up the medical expenses of ailing veteran actor, Sadiq Daba. In 2017, Sadiq Daba, who had been battling leukaemia and prostate cancer for the past few years, returned to Nigeria from the UK where he went for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Thelagostimes gathered that Cuppy’s godfather, Dangote, who is the owner of the Dangote Group, also made a donation of N100m.
