BABATUNDE FOWLER ON HIS WAY OUT?

Babatunde Fowler, executive chairman of Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue has hinted that he might be on his way out of service soon.
Speaking to newsmen about his achievement in Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), the major revenue generating agency of the state government saddled with the responsibility of collecting taxes, Fowler said: “I can’t be here forever; people should know that a time would come and I have to quit. VERY SOON. I will be knocking 10-year period and I think at that point in time, it is time to step aside and let somebody else come in,”
He also enumerated as one of his successes the over N20 billion internally generated revenue (IGR) of Lagos State as a legacy he would be leaving behind. According to him, Lagos State’s monthly internally generated revenue has risen from paltry N600 million in 1999 to N3.5 billion in 2006 and now peaking N20.5 billion, thereby making the state less dependent on proceeds from the Federation Account.
