In depth of kindness and breadth of generosity hardly anyone in Lagos State is the equal of popular politician Senator Gbenga Ashafa. The state and especially his constituency, is littered with many people who have climbed on his shoulders to prominence. He is the consummate philanthropist, a charming mix of political savvy and social clout
It seems that blood and genes are not the only things that the senator representing Lagos East at the national assembly has transmitted to his children. His very handsome son and heir Basheer Tosin Ashafa has imbibed his father’s spirit of humanitarianism.
The fair-complexioned managing partner at Macaulay & Cole, an advocacy and campaigning company, is gradually stepping into his father’s shoes with the BTA Support Fund. The scholarship scheme which is in its second season is aimed at assisting indigent secondary school and university students.
The second installment of the scheme is set to be flagged off on June 11, 2018 and will be focused on the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos. Lagos Times learnt that the young tycoon is pulling out all the stops to ensure the scheme puts smiles on the faces of needy schoolgoers in the area.
At a relatively young age, Basheer Tosin Ashafa has already caused ripples in the Lagos political river with his emergence as a charismatic ambassador of modern progressive politics. He is a key player behind the scenes helping to get as many youths as possible into politics. He can also call on his father’s formidable political structure whenever he needs it.
Political star-gazers and analysts have already began speculating that Ashafa Junior will soon follow Daddy into political office but any plans he has to that effect is being kept close to his chest. There are even speculations in some quarters that he is being pressured by his father’s people to throw his hat into the 2019 political ring.
In the meantime, Basheer is more than happy to continue quenching the thirst of the masses with the milk of human kindness just as his father is famous for. The BTA Education Support Fund is just one of several exciting projects he has lined up as part of his service to humanity.
